# Create an alert mute

> Stop alerts matching a pattern from paging. The pattern is a substring, matched without case against the alert's title, source and fingerprint, and stored lowercased: "highcpu" silences every alert whose title contains it, whatever its severity. duration_minutes is 1..10080 (one week); omit it for a mute that lasts until somebody removes it, which is what the Mute button on an alert creates.

A resource-shaped endpoint onto the same tool surface the MCP server
(/api/mcp) reaches. Every gate, refusal and audit row a caller sees here is
the exact one the MCP endpoint answers for the same tool. Authenticated with
an API key holding the api:admin scope, or the read-only api:config_read
    scope for GET alone.
